Blackcoin (BLK), launched by Pavel Vasin, was the first coin launched using the Proof of Work (PoW) protocol in February 2014 based on Scrypt algorithm. Within a week of launch it evolved to using a unique version of Proof of Stake (PoS). Following the theft of thousands of Blackcoins in March2014, trading was suspended for a time.
All of Blackcoin’s supply of 76.9 million Blackcoins are in circulation. Users who keep their wallets open for staking which helps secure the network earn an extra 1% to 8% interest per year paid in Blackcoin; the interest percentage varies according to the user’s network weight.
Black coin cannot be mined, though it can be traded on a number of exchanges. To buy Blackcoin you can use real world money (fiat) on or you can exchange with other cryptocurrency assets you hold. If you intend to hold Blackcoin for the long term, you may be better off holding it in your wallet, keeping it open for staking to earn interest, rather than letting it sit on an exchange.
