Telegram Launches U.S. Crypto Wallet with MoonPay

Telegram is bringing crypto to American users' fingertips. On Tuesday, the messaging giant rolled out a new non-custodial wallet for U.S. users through a partnership with MoonPay—allowing millions to send, receive, and manage cryptocurrencies directly within the app.
This marks Telegram's first major crypto feature tailored to the U.S. market. While the company previously launched a global wallet—garnering over 100 million activations—this new offering opens the door for American users to seamlessly engage in crypto transactions without ever leaving the chat interface.
The wallet is integrated into The Open Platform (TOP), Telegram’s blockchain ecosystem built on the TON network. Transactions happen as easily as sending a message, and the wallet installs instantly—no download required.
The move follows a long and controversial history with U.S. regulators. Telegram originally launched its TON token in 2019, only to face a high-profile legal battle with the SEC. The case ended with Telegram refunding $1.2 billion to investors and paying an $18.5 million fine.
Now, with regulatory scars behind it and a fresh $28.5 million Series A raised by TOP at a $1 billion valuation, Telegram appears ready to re-enter the U.S. crypto scene—this time, with a compliant, user-first wallet built for mainstream adoption.
