Metaplanet Buys Another 1,234 BTC, Surpassing Tesla in Bitcoin Holdings

Tokyo-based investment firm Metaplanet has added 1,234 more bitcoin to its growing treasury, spending approximately $132.7 million just a day after securing a massive $515 million capital raise to fund its BTC acquisition strategy.
The newly acquired bitcoin, purchased at an average price of $107,557, brings Metaplanet’s total holdings to a symbolic 12,345 BTC—worth around $1.3 billion at current prices. This milestone positions the firm ahead of Tesla on the list of public companies holding bitcoin, according to figures from bitcointreasuries.net, though the platform has yet to update its leaderboard with Metaplanet’s latest purchase.
The investment follows Metaplanet’s Wednesday announcement of a successful 74.9 billion yen ($515 million) stock issuance, aimed at executing its "555 million plan"—a long-term goal to acquire 1% of Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply. The company’s stock slid slightly by 0.94% on Thursday midday, though it has surged over 350% since the start of the year, despite a short-term pullback in recent days.
Metaplanet has laid out bold ambitions, aiming to hold more than 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. The firm began its Bitcoin strategy in April 2024 and has rapidly emerged as a serious contender among major corporate bitcoin treasuries.
Meanwhile, MicroStrategy, led by Michael Saylor, retains the top spot globally with 592,345 BTC, following a modest addition of 245 BTC this week.
