Tether Blocks $344 Million in USDT on Tron in Major Enforcement Move

Tether has frozen more than $344 million worth of USDT held across two wallets on the Tron blockchain, making it one of the company’s largest enforcement actions to date.

The freeze was carried out in cooperation with U.S. authorities after the funds were reportedly linked to suspected sanctions violations, organized crime activity, or other illicit financial operations. The blocked wallets contained approximately $213 million and $131 million in USDT.

The company said the move reflects its commitment to preventing misuse of stablecoins and maintaining transparency in the digital asset market. Tether emphasized that when credible evidence connects funds to criminal organizations or sanctioned entities, it takes swift action to restrict access.

According to the issuer, its compliance network now works with more than 340 law enforcement agencies in 65 countries. Tether says it has assisted in over 2,300 investigations globally and frozen more than $4.4 billion in assets overall, including more than $2.1 billion connected to U.S. cases.

The latest wallet freeze follows several previous high-value enforcement actions. In late 2023, Tether restricted roughly $225 million linked to a large fraud and trafficking investigation in Southeast Asia. Earlier this year, the company also froze around $182 million across multiple Tron addresses.

These growing enforcement measures underline how stablecoins are increasingly being monitored as regulators and investigators focus on digital assets used in cross-border crime, sanctions evasion, and cyber-related offenses.

The move also comes amid heightened scrutiny across the crypto industry following several major hacks and exploits tied to state-backed cyber groups. As a result, stablecoin issuers are facing increasing pressure to respond quickly when suspicious funds are identified.

Tether’s latest action may further strengthen its position in the market as users and institutions place greater value on issuers that can combine blockchain speed with regulatory responsiveness.
