Hunter Biden Reveals LAPTOP Memecoin Tokenomics Ahead of Base Launch
Hunter Biden has provided more details about the planned LAPTOP memecoin, explaining how the token will be distributed and how he intends to connect it to the political controversy surrounding his infamous laptop.
In a post on X, Biden described LAPTOP as a symbol of “resilience, redemption, and recovery,” arguing that the laptop controversy had been used as a political weapon against him and his family.
“They turned laptop into a weapon. I turned it into a token,” Biden wrote.
The LAPTOP token is scheduled to launch Wednesday on Base, Ethereum’s Layer 2 network. Its total supply will consist of 1 billion tokens, with 20% designated for community airdrops.
Half of that community allocation, equal to 10% of the total supply, will become available at the token generation event through a claim portal operated by the Phoenix Veritas Foundation. The other 10% is expected to be distributed later at the foundation’s discretion.
Another 30% of the supply will be connected to 30 publicly defined real-world predictions. The events include political scenarios such as Donald Trump being impeached during his term or Democrats winning control of either chamber of Congress in 2026. According to the project’s website, several of the predictions are tied to markets on Polymarket.
The token's treatment of those predictions is unusual. If a specified event occurs, a corresponding portion of tokens will be burned. If the event fails to happen, those tokens will instead be directed to charity.
Biden has also pledged another 50 million LAPTOP tokens to charitable causes regardless of how the predictions turn out.
The project's official disclosures provide further details on the remaining allocation. Founders, including Biden, are set to receive 30% of the total supply. That allocation will be subject to a six-month lock-up followed by a 24-month vesting schedule.
Liquidity is earmarked for 10% of the supply, while another 5% will go to the Phoenix Veritas Foundation treasury to fund its operations.
Biden has stressed that LAPTOP should not be viewed as a conventional investment designed to increase in value. He said buyers should not expect him or anyone else associated with the project to deliberately drive up the token's price.
“LAPTOP isn't just about owning something, it's about saying something,” he wrote.
The project also comes with a pointed political message. Biden criticized Trump and referenced the former president's own memecoin, which experienced a sharp decline that left many holders with substantial losses.
“Trump has broken trust in everything he's ever touched. And his token was no exception,” Biden wrote.
The LAPTOP concept draws directly from one of the most politically charged episodes surrounding the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Hunter Biden left a laptop at a Delaware repair shop in 2019, and files from the device later became the subject of intense political and media scrutiny.
The material included emails and financial records related to Biden's overseas business activities, along with highly personal content. Congressional Republicans subsequently cited material from the laptop during investigations into whether Joe Biden had been involved in his son's business dealings. Joe Biden was not charged in connection with those allegations.
Files recovered from the laptop also later featured in Hunter Biden's 2024 federal firearm trial, which ended with his conviction.
By turning the controversy into a cryptocurrency project, Biden is attempting to give the laptop saga a new identity — this time through a memecoin built around political predictions, token burns, charitable commitments and a message of defiance.
