SEC Pushes Crypto ETF Decisions to October 2025, Extending Industry Uncertainty

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has once again extended its timeline for deciding on several high-profile cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs), pushing the next set of deadlines into October 2025.
According to filings dated August 18, 2025, the regulator cited the need for more time to evaluate proposed rule changes. The ETFs under review include the Truth Social Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF, multiple XRP-focused funds, a Litecoin ETF, and a staking-enabled Ethereum ETF.
The new deadlines are as follows:
-
Grayscale XRP Trust: October 18, 2025
-
21Shares Core XRP ETF: October 19, 2025
-
CoinShares XRP ETF: October 23, 2025
-
Canary XRP Trust: October 23, 2025
-
CoinShares Litecoin ETF: October 23, 2025
-
21Shares Core Ethereum ETF (staking): October 23, 2025
The SEC stated that a longer review period is “appropriate” in order to carefully consider the potential market impact and issues raised by these filings.
This latest deferral follows the agency’s recent delay of four Solana ETFs, reinforcing its cautious stance toward crypto-linked financial products. As a result, market sentiment has shifted. On Polymarket, a prediction platform, the odds of a Litecoin ETF approval by year-end fell from 82% to 79%, while chances of an XRP ETF approval slipped slightly to 77%.
With October deadlines now set, the crypto community is bracing for what could be pivotal rulings. Approval could pave the way for stronger institutional adoption, while continued delays risk prolonging uncertainty in an industry eager for regulatory clarity.
