Solana Price Plans Face Pressure as $1.15B Short Liquidations Loom

Solana (SOL) has broken below a multi-week consolidation range, signaling fading short-term momentum after an extended period of sideways trading. The breakdown points to weakening demand as traders shift into a defensive stance amid broader crypto market softness.

Despite the price decline, Solana’s ecosystem continues to score notable milestones in real-world adoption. The government of Bhutan recently introduced the world’s first Solana-powered visa designed specifically for digital nomads. The initiative builds on Bhutan’s earlier rollout of a gold-backed token, TER, also issued on the Solana network.

These sovereign-backed blockchain integrations reinforce Solana’s standing as a scalable infrastructure layer for national-level digital initiatives. However, expanding adoption has yet to translate into immediate upside for SOL’s market price.

Selling Pressure Intensifies

On-chain data suggests investors remain cautious. Realized net profit and loss metrics show that many holders are still exiting positions at a loss, signaling weak confidence in a near-term recovery. Over the past 24 hours alone, realized losses surged by $68 million to a total of $317 million as the broader crypto market slid.

Elevated realized losses typically reflect sustained bearish conviction. Rather than accumulating, traders appear focused on limiting downside exposure.

Derivatives Market Leans Bearish

The defensive tone extends into derivatives. Liquidation data reveals short positions currently outweigh long exposure, indicating that many traders are betting on continued downside.

At present, SOL trades around $76. The liquidation map shows a notable imbalance: approximately $1.15 billion in short positions would be forced to close if price rallies to $89. In contrast, about $242 million in long liquidations would trigger if SOL drops toward $67.

This skew suggests that while bearish positioning dominates, a sharp upside move could create a significant short squeeze.

Volatility Setup Approaching

Technical indicators show Bollinger Bands tightening, a setup that often precedes a volatility expansion. With sentiment tilted bearish, downside risk appears elevated in the near term.

If SOL loses the $73 support zone, price could slide toward $64. A move into that range may trigger additional long liquidations, potentially accelerating volatility and compounding losses.

However, sentiment shifts quickly in crypto markets. If buyers regain control, SOL could move back into the $78–$87 consolidation range. A sustained recovery and breakout above $89 would put $1.15 billion in short positions under pressure, potentially fueling a rapid upside move.

For now, Solana stands at a technical crossroads—balancing sovereign-backed adoption momentum against cautious market sentiment and elevated liquidation risk.
