Strategy Adds $2 Billion in Bitcoin as Treasury Nears 844K BTC

Strategy revealed Monday that it purchased another 24,869 bitcoin for roughly $2.01 billion, paying an average price of about $80,985 per BTC as the company continues expanding its massive digital asset treasury.

The latest acquisition lifts Strategy’s total holdings to 843,738 BTC, extending its lead as the world’s biggest corporate bitcoin holder. According to the company’s SEC filing, the firm has now spent approximately $63.87 billion accumulating bitcoin at an average purchase price near $75,700 per coin.

The move signals a sharp return to aggressive accumulation after Strategy’s previous disclosed purchase totaled just 535 BTC worth around $43 million earlier this month, sparking speculation that the company may have slowed its buying activity.

Strategy said its year-to-date BTC Yield for 2026 reached 12.6%, a metric the company uses to measure bitcoin accumulation growth relative to diluted shares outstanding. The figure has become a central benchmark for evaluating the effectiveness of the company’s capital markets strategy.

Much of Strategy’s recent bitcoin buying has been financed through its STRC preferred stock offering and its at-the-market equity issuance program. The STRC product, which carries an annualized dividend yield near 11.5%, has evolved into a key funding mechanism behind the company’s expanding bitcoin treasury operations.

Executive Chairman Michael Saylor had hinted at a larger purchase over the weekend after posting an update to the firm’s bitcoin tracker and teasing what he described as “big dot energy,” referencing the company’s well-known acquisition chart.

The announcement also comes shortly after Strategy executives acknowledged during the firm’s Q1 2026 earnings call that the company could potentially sell some bitcoin under certain conditions, including funding dividend obligations tied to STRC or handling tax liabilities. Saylor later softened concerns surrounding possible sales, saying Strategy intended to remain a long-term net buyer of bitcoin.

At current bitcoin prices hovering near $80,000, Strategy’s holdings are now valued at more than $67 billion, making it one of the most concentrated single-asset corporate balance sheets ever assembled.

Last week, the company also disclosed plans to retire $1.5 billion worth of its 2029 convertible notes at a discount, repurchasing the debt for around $1.38 billion as it continues reshaping its balance sheet while doubling down on its bitcoin-focused strategy.
