The Raiden Network (RDN) is an off-chain payment transfer service which runs on the Ethereum network. Raiden aims to offer a solution to Ethereum’s slow native transaction times while addressing future scalability issues that will arise when cryptocurrency becomes more mainstream. Raiden brings comparable Lightning Network techniques of Bitcoin to the Ethereum network, and transactions are compatible with any ERC20 token.
The Raiden Network is a product of Brainbot Labs – a company founded in 2000 by early Ethereum developer Heiko Hees. Brainbot Labs are also the company behind such projects as Hydrachain and Trustlines, and are established as one of the top firms in blockchain development. The RDN coin offering ended in November 2017, with around half of the total one hundred million RDN supply released and in circulation.
Raiden aims to provide double the transaction volume capabilities of mainstream firms like Mastercard and Visa, and seeks to provide a fast payment platform for the inevitable full-scale adoption of digital currencies.
