Dogecoin Labs Launches to Expand DOGE Payments, Apps and Gaming

Dogecoin is bringing several of its leading products under one organization as the cryptocurrency's ecosystem looks to expand beyond trading and build more practical uses for DOGE.

Dogecoin Labs was announced Tuesday in partnership with the Dogecoin Foundation. The new independent organization will bring together products, intellectual property and development teams that have operated separately across the Dogecoin ecosystem. The initiative includes contributions from the Foundation and House of Doge.

The organization will manage three core products: MyDoge, a Dogecoin wallet; DogeOS, an application platform for developers; and Such App, a tool designed to support merchant payments. Together, the products aim to connect users, developers and businesses through services that use DOGE.

Despite being one of the most recognizable cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin has yet to build an ecosystem of applications and businesses that matches its large community and market presence. Dogecoin Labs wants to address that gap by supporting products across payments, commerce, trading, decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, artificial intelligence and social applications.

CEO Jordan Jefferson, who founded MyDoge and DogeOS, said Dogecoin's liquidity, community and cultural reach offer significant potential for growth. He added that the long-running ambition to push DOGE toward $1 needs a broader economy of products and services to support it.

The initiative builds on recent development efforts. DogeOS opened its public testnet on September 30, providing developers with an Ethereum-compatible environment for creating applications linked to Dogecoin. MyDoge, which surpassed 500,000 users without paid user acquisition, also released a V3 update that connects the wallet with applications built on the platform.

Such App adds a merchant-payment component, giving the three products complementary roles in the planned ecosystem. The broader goal is to make it easier for users to spend DOGE, access applications and interact with businesses rather than simply hold or trade the token.

Gaming is also expected to be part of the expansion. Around 15 Dogecoin-themed hypercasual mini-games across several genres are planned for release by the end of the year through the DogeOS application layer. Published by PlaysOut, the games are expected to use the Dogecoin network for rewards and other features. Players are intended to access them through the MyDoge wallet and the PlaysOut mobile app.

The Dogecoin Foundation will continue to focus on ecosystem stewardship, open-source development and advocacy, while Dogecoin Labs takes responsibility for commercial product development.

The launch comes as DOGE faces a challenging market period. The token traded near $0.084 on Tuesday, rising 3.9% over 24 hours and carrying a market capitalization of about $13 billion. However, it remained down roughly 14% over the previous month and about 88% below its May 2021 all-time high.

Institutional demand has also delivered mixed signals. A Dogecoin ETF backed by the Foundation and offered by 21Shares launched on Nasdaq this year, while Bitwise later closed its own Dogecoin fund, citing low demand and a decision to adjust its product lineup.

Dogecoin Labs now faces the task of turning the cryptocurrency's established name and active community into sustained demand for applications and services. Its progress will depend on whether developers build useful products and whether consumers and businesses adopt them at scale.
