MasterCard is Actively Hiring Blockchain Talent for More Efficient Payment Solutions

At this moment in time, it is well-known that financial companies and institutions throughout the world are eyeing blockchain technology, and looking for methods of implementation that would benefit them and their user base.

Recent reports indicate that MasterCard is actively looking to employ blockchain talent, as the corporation is actively trying to incorporate the technology into their operations. With this in mind, MasterCard will be hiring 175 people for their Dublin-based MasterCard Lab, a department whose focus is developing the world’s future payment solutions. The corporation mentioned that the new employees will take on various positions, including software engineers, analysts, security and of course, blockchain experts.

Currently, the MasterCard team is working on learning more about how blockchain technology can be integrated within the company’s future, as part of its services. It is important to point out the fact that the new employees will not only be focusing on blockchain for financial purposes, but rather for their side-project  as well – creating blockchain-based solar power solutions for people who do not have access to electricity.

Recently, Sonya Geelon, Ireland’s MasterCard manager, mentioned that: "We're driving projects that promote financial inclusion at home and abroad, and are working to provide consumers, businesses and governments with the most innovative, safe and secure ways to pay."

Back in 2016, MasterCard released a number of blockchain-based APIs, meant to give developers the possibility of working on new, unreleased technologies. Not only this, but the company has also filed several patents, such as a system for purchase orders, invoices and transaction data.

Some believe that MasterCard’s rising interest in blockchain technology will soon bring a new wave of cryptocurrency debit/pre-paid cards. This is a needed development, given the fact that Visa is no longer affiliated with bitcoin cards.

In a recent statement, the Irish Minister for Business, Heather Humphreys mentioned that: MasterCard’s decision to expand here is an important landmark and I warmly welcome the new jobs that are coming with the announcement. The Government has been working hard to ensure that we have the right conditions in place to attract the knowledge-based sectors to Ireland, in particular a skilled workforce that can fill the needs of companies like MasterCard. Ireland is now a very attractive location for international Fintech and payment companies from all over the world and announcements like this one today illustrate that our policies are continuing to deliver tangible results.”

Based on everything that has been outlined so far, the market hopes that MasterCard’s increasing interest in blockchain technology will bring about more innovative solutions for its clients.
