Metaplanet Vaults to Fifth Place Among Global Bitcoin Treasuries with $108M BTC Buy

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has significantly boosted its Bitcoin reserves, snapping up an additional 1,005 BTC for approximately $108.1 million. The latest acquisition, made at an average price of $107,601 per coin, brings the company’s total holdings to a staggering 13,350 BTC—elevating it above Galaxy Digital and CleanSpark in the global corporate rankings.
The firm’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, revealed the milestone Monday, celebrating the rapid pace of accumulation: “Just three months ago we hit 3,350 BTC. Now we’ve added another 10,000 to reach 13,350,” he posted on X. With this surge, Metaplanet now ranks as the fifth-largest publicly listed Bitcoin holder in the world, based on data from BitcoinTreasuries.net.
Looking ahead, the company has set a highly ambitious target: to accumulate over 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027.
The aggressive expansion is being supported by bold financial engineering. On the same day as the announcement, Metaplanet disclosed the issuance of zero-interest bonds totaling 30 billion yen (roughly $208 million), maturing in December 2025. A portion of these funds will be used to retire an earlier series of interest-bearing, collateralized bonds, while the rest is earmarked for further Bitcoin purchases.
Market reaction was swift and bullish—Metaplanet’s stock surged nearly 10% Monday morning in Tokyo and has soared over 370% year-to-date, reflecting investor confidence in its bold treasury strategy.
While Metaplanet’s rise is impressive, MicroStrategy still dominates the field, holding over 592,000 BTC, after quietly adding another 245 coins last week.
As institutional Bitcoin treasuries swell, Metaplanet’s rapid ascent signals that Japan may be emerging as a serious contender in the global race to stockpile digital gold.
