Solana’s Wild Ride: From 900% Surge to Sharp Correction—What’s Next for SOL?

Solana (SOL) was a standout performer during the latest cryptocurrency bull run, soaring from around $20 to over $200 in just six months between late 2023 and early 2024—a staggering 900% rally. This explosive growth made SOL a key indicator of market momentum, fueled in part by a surge in meme coin activity on its blockchain.

However, the tables have turned in recent months. Solana has faced a significant downturn, dropping 41.17% from its January 19 high of $286.81 to a recent price of $168.72. Over the past 30 days, SOL has slid 39.16%, marking its lowest level in more than three months. The steep decline wiped out approximately $50 billion in market capitalization within a single month.

Solana’s Decline Amidst a Struggling Crypto Market in 2025

Solana’s downturn comes as the broader cryptocurrency market struggles to maintain momentum in 2025. With President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the hype that fueled earlier rallies has cooled, leaving digital assets in a state of stagnation. Even Bitcoin (BTC), the market leader, has posted only a modest 1.89% gain year-to-date.

Adding to Solana’s troubles, network activity has plunged. The volume of transactions on the blockchain plummeted from $2 billion in November to just $26 million by November 17—a staggering 98.7% drop. Meanwhile, short positions have surged, with SOL seeing the highest short-to-long ratio among major cryptocurrencies.

The blockchain’s strong association with meme coins may also be working against it. While these tokens played a crucial role in SOL’s initial rally, they have also attracted bad actors. One of the most recent controversies involved the meme coin LIBRA, which was promoted—whether knowingly or not—by Argentina’s president Javier Milei before it was used in a pump-and-dump scheme.

Could Solana Stage Another Comeback in 2025?

Despite its sharp correction, history suggests that major cryptocurrencies like Solana often recover from significant downturns. Bitcoin, for instance, rebounded after dropping from $67,000 in 2021 to just $16,000 before reclaiming higher levels. Similarly, Solana previously clawed its way back from a collapse to $10 following the FTX crisis.

If history repeats itself, SOL’s current dip may present a compelling buying opportunity. As long as it holds above $162, analysts suggest the token could aim for a rebound toward $280 in the near future. The question now is whether Solana can once again defy the odds and reclaim its bullish momentum.
