BitMine Boosts Ether Holdings Despite Market Slump, Nears 5% Supply Target

BitMine Immersion Technologies continued to increase its Ethereum exposure during last week's market weakness, purchasing an additional 76,881 ETH as prices briefly dipped below $1,600. The latest acquisition reinforces the company's long-term accumulation strategy, which has remained active regardless of short-term market fluctuations.
Following the purchase, BitMine's Ethereum treasury has grown to approximately 4.66% of the network's circulating supply, bringing the company closer to its ambitious objective of controlling 5% of all ETH in circulation. With Ethereum's circulating supply standing at roughly 120.68 million tokens, BitMine has become one of the largest corporate holders of the asset.
Despite its aggressive accumulation, the company is currently facing significant unrealized losses due to Ethereum's prolonged price decline. At current market levels, BitMine's ETH reserves are valued at around $10.2 billion, though the position remains well below its aggregate acquisition cost.
Beyond simply holding Ether, BitMine has committed more than 4.1 million ETH to staking, allowing it to generate ongoing protocol rewards while helping secure the Ethereum network. The staked assets, worth approximately $8.1 billion at current prices, provide the company with a steady source of yield even as the broader market remains under pressure.
Ethereum itself continues to face multiple challenges. Investor sentiment has weakened alongside persistent outflows from US spot Ether exchange-traded funds, which experienced several consecutive days of net withdrawals. The trend has highlighted declining institutional demand during the current market downturn.
At the same time, Ethereum's layer-2 expansion strategy has sparked debate within the community. While scaling networks have successfully reduced transaction costs and improved efficiency, critics argue that increasing activity on layer-2 chains may reduce fee generation and ETH burning on the main network, potentially affecting the asset's long-term economics.
The ecosystem has also been grappling with organizational changes at the Ethereum Foundation. Several senior contributors and researchers have departed the nonprofit organization this year, fueling discussions about governance, leadership, and the future direction of Ethereum development.
Even amid these headwinds, BitMine's latest purchase signals continued confidence in Ethereum's long-term prospects, as the company doubles down on its strategy of accumulating and staking ETH through challenging market conditions.
