Tom Lee’s BitMine Plans Massive Ethereum Bet as Holdings Hit $10B Despite Market Turbulence

BitMine Immersion Technologies has sharply expanded its Ethereum treasury, adding tens of thousands of ETH to its balance sheet and pushing its total holdings beyond 4.66 million tokens—valued at roughly $10.17 billion, according to a recent SEC filing.

The latest purchase saw the company acquire 65,341 ETH, worth around $142 million at current prices, reinforcing its position as the largest institutional holder of Ethereum. Alongside its crypto reserves, BitMine also maintains approximately $1.1 billion in cash and a smaller Bitcoin allocation valued near $14 million.

Despite the aggressive accumulation, the firm is currently sitting on an estimated $7 billion in unrealized losses, highlighting the risks of its high-conviction strategy.

Chairman Tom Lee has remained optimistic, signaling that the company is positioning itself for a broader market turnaround. He emphasized that negative sentiment tends to be quickly priced in during periods of uncertainty, while opportunities often emerge earlier than expected—particularly during geopolitical tensions.

Ethereum’s price has shown signs of short-term recovery, climbing about 5% over the past 24 hours to around $2,180. The move followed upbeat geopolitical developments after Donald Trump indicated a delay in potential military action against Iran amid constructive discussions.

Even so, the asset has faced recent volatility. Over the past week, Ethereum declined more than 4%, dipping to a low near $1,855 before rebounding.

BitMine’s holdings now account for roughly 3.8% of Ethereum’s total supply—an outsized share that underscores the scale of its bet.

Beyond simply holding ETH, the company is actively generating yield through staking. It has already staked over 3.14 million ETH and plans to fully deploy its treasury into staking over time. Once complete, BitMine estimates it could generate approximately $272 million annually in rewards, creating a significant income stream while maintaining long-term exposure.

The firm’s continued accumulation comes amid broader market uncertainty and cautious investor sentiment, but its strategy signals strong conviction that the current downturn may be nearing its end—and that Ethereum could play a central role in the next phase of crypto market growth.
