Dash Surges 48% After Global Fiat On-Ramp Deal Reignites Interest in Legacy Privacy Coins

Dash (DASH) staged a surprise breakout on Wednesday, Jan. 14, climbing nearly 50% in a single day after securing a major new distribution partnership that expanded its global accessibility.
According to CoinGecko data, DASH surged from around $55 to as high as $86 within 24 hours, marking a gain of roughly 48%. Trading activity spiked alongside the price move, with daily volume reaching approximately $1.3 billion and pushing Dash’s market capitalization back above the $1 billion threshold.
The rally came amid renewed momentum across privacy-focused cryptocurrencies, particularly those benefiting from fresh integrations that lower entry barriers for users. While Dash is often grouped with older, quieter assets from earlier crypto cycles, its optional privacy feature—PrivateSend—has placed it back on traders’ radar during the recent privacy-token resurgence.
Momentum accelerated following a Jan. 13 announcement from Alchemy Pay, which added DASH support to its fiat on-ramp services. The integration allows users in 173 countries to purchase Dash using local fiat payment methods, significantly broadening access to the asset.
Market participants also pointed to derivatives activity amplifying the move. Crypto exchange ChangeHero reported that more than $4.9 million in DASH short positions were liquidated as the token broke through key technical resistance levels. Updated data from Coinglass later showed total short liquidations exceeding $7.7 million within 24 hours.
Launched in 2014, Dash brands itself as “digital cash” and is known for early innovations such as decentralized governance via DAOs and masternodes. In 2024, the project rolled out Dash Evolution, a decentralized data network aimed at improving Web3 usability and application design.
Dash’s surge adds to a strong week for privacy-linked tokens overall, even as regulatory pressure persists. Despite Dubai’s recent ban on privacy coins, traders appear to be rewarding assets seen as resilient to adverse policy signals. ChangeHero noted that the market response suggests confidence rather than fear.
Elsewhere in the sector, Monero (XMR) rose about 12% over the past 24 hours and roughly 69% over the week, while Zcash (ZEC) gained more than 8% on the day. ZEC has also emerged as the top-performing cryptocurrency of 2025 so far, posting gains of over 800%.
