Metaplanet Pushes Toward 210,000 BTC Goal With Fresh $93.6M Purchase

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has deepened its bitcoin commitment, adding 797 BTC—worth approximately $93.6 million—to its rapidly growing treasury as the digital asset soared past $120,000 over the weekend.
CEO Simon Gerovich confirmed the purchase on X, noting the average acquisition price at $117,451 per bitcoin. The move brings Metaplanet’s total holdings to 16,352 BTC, valued at over $1.64 billion, solidifying its place as the fifth-largest public bitcoin holder globally.
Originally a hotel operator, Metaplanet rebranded last year to focus on bitcoin treasury management and has since embraced what Gerovich calls a "bitcoin gold rush." The firm recently revised its target to amass over 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027—a figure that would eclipse all other corporate bitcoin holdings to date.
Metaplanet's ambitious strategy includes leveraging its bitcoin as collateral to acquire cash-generating companies, with early-stage plans to expand into digital financial services. In its latest earnings report, the company posted a 42.4% YoY revenue increase for Q2, hitting nearly 1.1 billion yen ($7.6 million).
The bullish move coincided with bitcoin reaching a new all-time high of $120,754, while Metaplanet's stock ticked up 1% to 1,580 yen ($10.70) in midday trading on Monday.
With its aggressive bitcoin buildup and plans for broader financial integration, Metaplanet is emerging as a bold outlier in Japan's traditionally conservative corporate landscape.
