Metaplanet Joins Global Bitcoin Elite with 20,000 BTC Treasury

Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed firm, has propelled its Bitcoin reserves beyond 20,000 BTC, positioning itself among the world’s largest corporate holders of the cryptocurrency. The move marks the first time a non-US company has entered the global top six in Bitcoin treasury rankings.
The company revealed Monday that it acquired an additional 1,009 BTC for approximately $112 million, averaging $111,000 per coin. This follows a smaller purchase of 103 BTC on August 25, signaling an accelerated accumulation strategy.
Metaplanet now controls more Bitcoin than Riot Platforms, a US-based mining operator, with its total stash acquired at a cumulative cost of $2.06 billion (¥302.3 billion). In its latest quarterly filing, the firm reported a Bitcoin yield of 30.7%, highlighting how reserve growth has outpaced its fully diluted share base.
To finance its buying spree, Metaplanet has leaned on capital market maneuvers. August saw the issuance of its 20th round of stock options to EVO FUND, creating 60 million new shares. The proceeds supported both Bitcoin acquisitions and early repayment of outstanding bonds.
Despite these bold moves, investor response was muted. Shares closed at 831 yen on the announcement day, down 5.46% from the previous session.
Metaplanet has made clear it intends to continue accumulating Bitcoin in line with its capital strategy. With this milestone, the company cements its role as Asia’s most aggressive corporate Bitcoin adopter, drawing the attention of both global investors and the crypto industry at large.
