Base Chain Back Online After Brief Outage Amid Surge in App Activity

The Coinbase-backed Layer 2 network Base has successfully resumed operations after an unexpected halt in block production disrupted key functionalities on its mainnet earlier today.
According to its status page, the network first flagged delays at 1:15 a.m., impacting deposits, withdrawals, and other core features. Roughly half an hour later, the Base team confirmed the issue had been resolved and that normal activity was resuming. While no technical details were shared about the cause, the network said it would continue to monitor performance.
The temporary disruption comes at a time of heightened activity on the Base mainnet, driven largely by the recent relaunch of the Base App. The revamped platform introduced integrations with Zora and Farcaster, accelerating the growth of a decentralized creator and social ecosystem within the chain.
That momentum has translated into a massive uptick in new token deployments: from just 6,649 tokens on July 1st to around 50,000 by the end of the month—underscoring the increasing demand being placed on the network.
