Bitwise to Shut Down Dogecoin ETF After Less Than a Year

Bitwise is preparing to close its Dogecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), ending the product less than a year after it began trading.

The asset manager said the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) will be liquidated as part of an effort to adjust its product lineup to changing investor demand. The fund launched on Nov. 25, 2025, but has struggled to build significant assets.

BWOW held around $688,000 in net assets as of Sept. 9, according to Bitwise’s fund data. The relatively small asset base appears to have contributed to the decision to discontinue the ETF.

Trading on NYSE Arca is expected to continue through Oct. 14, which will be the fund’s final trading day. Investors will be able to sell their BWOW shares during that session before the ETF stops operating.

Bitwise will also convert the Dogecoin (DOGE) held by the fund into cash on Oct. 14. The creation of new ETF shares will end before the market opens on Oct. 15.

Investors who continue to hold BWOW after trading ends will receive a cash payment based on the fund’s net asset value. The amount will be calculated as of Oct. 21, with distributions expected to reach shareholders on or around Oct. 22.

The liquidation payments will be handled automatically through investors’ brokers or other financial intermediaries, meaning shareholders will not need to submit separate redemption requests.

The closure marks a short run for Bitwise’s Dogecoin ETF, which was launched in late 2025 to provide investors with regulated market exposure to the popular meme-based cryptocurrency.
