CFTC Clears Polymarket to Operate as Fully Regulated U.S. Exchange

Polymarket has reached a landmark milestone after receiving an Amended Order of Designation from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), officially authorizing the platform to operate as an intermediated, fully regulated U.S. exchange.

The decision grants Polymarket the ability to work directly with brokerages, onboard customers through traditional financial channels, and facilitate trading across fully compliant U.S. venues. With intermediated access now approved, users will be able to trade prediction markets through futures commission merchants (FCMs), gaining access to established custody, reporting, and market infrastructure frameworks.

According to the company, the authorization marks a new phase of operational maturity, reflecting its alignment with U.S. regulatory standards and its commitment to transparency. The updated designation follows extensive collaboration with the CFTC and signals growing federal acceptance of prediction markets as part of the broader financial ecosystem.

In preparation for launch under the amended order, Polymarket has implemented advanced surveillance technologies, strengthened market oversight mechanisms, and enhanced both clearing processes and regulatory reporting capabilities. Additional rules and policies tied to intermediated trading will be activated before the platform fully transitions into its new role.

Despite the expanded permissions, Polymarket will continue to operate under all requirements of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulations governing Designated Contract Markets, including its full suite of self-regulatory duties.

As one of the world’s leading prediction platforms, Polymarket has become a key barometer for real-time event probability across politics, economics, pop culture, and global news. In 2025 alone, billions of dollars in forecasts have been placed, reinforcing the platform’s growing influence in how institutions, journalists, and individuals interpret future outcomes.
