GameStop Raises $1.5B to Bet Big on Bitcoin

GameStop has officially raised $1.5 billion through a private offering of convertible notes, signaling a bold move into the world of cryptocurrency. The gaming retailer confirmed in an SEC filing that it had successfully completed its offering of 0.00% convertible senior notes due 2030, including a $200 million overallotment option exercised by initial purchasers.
Despite an initial surge in GameStop’s stock price following the announcement, shares have since retreated, suggesting investor skepticism about the company's decision to allocate funds toward bitcoin. This strategy closely resembles the high-profile bitcoin accumulation approach taken by Strategy in 2020.
"GameStop clearly recognizes the effectiveness of this model,” said Nathan Cox, CIO of Two Prime Digital Assets. With over $4 billion in cash reserves and $3.8 billion in revenue in 2024, GameStop's potential to expand its bitcoin holdings could be substantial.
As the retailer ventures deeper into digital assets, all eyes will be on how this move reshapes its financial future.
