Metaplanet Adds $239M in Bitcoin, Targets 210,000 BTC by 2027

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has deepened its Bitcoin strategy with a fresh purchase of 2,205 BTC, worth approximately $238.7 million, the company revealed Monday. Acquired at an average price of $108,237 per coin, the buy pushes Metaplanet’s total holdings to 15,555 BTC — solidifying its position as the fifth-largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder globally, according to Bitcointreasuries.net.
CEO Simon Gerovich emphasized the company’s conviction in Bitcoin as a foundation for growth, stating last week, “This accelerating growth affirms the strength of our strategy — building a sustainable, scalable, and operationally efficient business on a bitcoin standard.”
The firm has also set an ambitious new target: to accumulate more than 210,000 BTC by the close of 2027. This goal would place it among the top corporate holders alongside industry titan MicroStrategy, which currently holds 597,325 BTC.
Metaplanet reported ¥1.1 billion (around $7.6 million) in Q2 revenue, up 42.4% from the same period last year. Despite a slight 1.8% dip in its share price during Monday’s trading session, the company's stock remains up nearly 14% over the past month and has soared 339% since the start of the year.
