Morgan Stanley Brings Spot Crypto Trading to E*TRADE With Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana

Morgan Stanley has officially introduced spot cryptocurrency trading on its E*TRADE brokerage platform, giving eligible clients the ability to buy, sell and hold Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL).

The new service is powered through a partnership with digital asset infrastructure provider Zero Hash, which will custody customers' crypto holdings in linked accounts instead of Morgan Stanley directly. Investors can still view their digital assets alongside stocks and other investments within the E*TRADE platform, creating a more unified portfolio experience.

Crypto transactions will be subject to a 50-basis-point trading fee. The bank also said support for cryptocurrency transfers is expected to be added later this year.

Morgan Stanley said the launch is designed to give customers access to traditional investments and digital assets from a single platform as interest in cryptocurrencies continues to grow.

"Our clients' investing needs continue to expand, and we're focused on offering the tools they need in one trusted destination," the company said while announcing the rollout.

The crypto trading launch is part of a wider upgrade to the E*TRADE platform. Morgan Stanley has also introduced new retirement planning features, expanded fractional share investing, refreshed its IPO Center and added additional tools aimed at active traders.

The company said integrating crypto into E*TRADE represents another step in its broader digital asset strategy, allowing clients to manage a wider range of investments without leaving the platform.

The move builds on several cryptocurrency initiatives Morgan Stanley has announced this year. In January, the financial institution submitted filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for spot Bitcoin and Solana exchange-traded funds. It later revealed plans to explore tokenization, tokenized money market funds and digital asset tax-management solutions.

In April, the bank also unveiled a money market fund intended to help stablecoin issuers manage reserve assets under the GENIUS Act framework.

Morgan Stanley first revealed plans to integrate cryptocurrency trading into E*TRADE in September 2025, stating that Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana would be the initial supported assets through Zero Hash. With the feature now live, the company has completed that roadmap and further expanded its presence in the growing digital asset market.
