SpaceX Shifts $31 Million in Bitcoin as Elon Musk’s Crypto Strategy Enters New Phase

Elon Musk’s aerospace powerhouse, SpaceX, has once again stirred the crypto markets after transferring 281 Bitcoin (worth over $31 million) from its Coinbase Prime custody account to a newly created wallet on Wednesday.
The move, revealed through Arkham Intelligence on-chain data, follows a string of significant transactions last week that saw hundreds of millions in Bitcoin move between wallets linked to SpaceX. While the company has not provided any public explanation, analysts suggest the activity could signal a restructuring of custody arrangements, potential liquidation, or preparations for crypto-backed operations.
This latest transaction marks the most active period in SpaceX’s Bitcoin management since mid-2022, when the company trimmed its holdings from 25,000 BTC to 8,285 BTC. Assuming no further sales, SpaceX now sits on approximately 8,285 BTC—valued around $894 million—ranking it as the fourth-largest privately held Bitcoin treasury, according to bitcointreasuries.net.
Meanwhile, Musk’s other major company, Tesla, maintains 11,509 BTC—worth roughly $1.24 billion—and continues to hold a position among the largest public Bitcoin treasuries globally. Earlier this year, Tesla reported over $600 million in quarterly profit thanks to new accounting standards that let firms revalue their crypto holdings amid Bitcoin’s post-election surge following President Trump’s victory.
Notably, Tesla’s last wallet movement occurred in October 2024, when it quietly reorganized its Bitcoin holdings without offering an explanation—mirroring SpaceX’s current silence.
With both Musk-led firms reshuffling their Bitcoin reserves within months of each other, speculation is mounting that Musk may be coordinating a broader strategic realignment across his ventures—possibly linked to upcoming product launches, financing models, or broader integration of digital assets into operational infrastructure.
For now, the crypto community remains on high alert, watching SpaceX’s next move as Musk’s Bitcoin maneuvers continue to defy conventional corporate patterns.
