SUI Ignites 2026 Rally as Network Strength Shrugs Off Token Unlock

Sui’s native token, SUI, has kicked off the new year with a sharp reversal of fortune, surging more than 38% since early January and reaching price levels not seen in nearly two months. The move signals renewed confidence in the Layer 1 network after a prolonged period of consolidation.

Momentum has been building steadily. SUI has now posted five consecutive daily gains—its longest winning streak since April—and briefly touched $1.99 during Asian trading hours, a price last recorded in mid-November. At the time of writing, the token was trading near $1.94, up over 14% in the past 24 hours alone.

Trading activity has accelerated alongside price action. Daily volume jumped more than 91% to approximately $1.7 billion, highlighting strong market participation rather than a thin, speculative bounce. Tokens across the broader Sui ecosystem have also advanced, reflecting improving sentiment toward the network as a whole.

What makes the rally stand out is its timing. On January 1, roughly 43.69 million SUI tokens—worth an estimated $65 million—entered circulation as part of the project’s monthly vesting schedule. Instead of triggering sell pressure, the market absorbed the additional supply, with prices continuing to trend higher.

Analysts point to sustained network performance as a key factor behind the resilience. Following the Mysticeti v2 upgrade, Sui has maintained throughput of around 866 transactions per second, reinforcing the narrative of a recovering and scalable ecosystem. Some observers also highlight growing institutional attention, noting recent spot SUI ETF filings from firms such as Bitwise and Canary Capital.

Technical analysts see room for further upside. Chart watchers note that SUI recently bounced from a triple-bottom formation—often interpreted as a strong support signal—and reclaimed the $1.75 level, strengthening the bullish case. Traders like CryptoBullet have floated upside targets ranging from $2.8 to $3.5 if momentum continues.

In a more optimistic scenario, some market participants believe SUI’s market capitalization—currently around $7.3 billion—could climb toward $30 billion during a favorable altcoin cycle. Still, such outcomes hinge on broader market conditions, continued network adoption, and sustained investor appetite. As the rally unfolds, volatility remains an important variable for traders to monitor.
