Tether Posts $4.9B Profit as It Eyes U.S. Market Push After GENIUS Act Passage

Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin issuer, reported a massive $4.9 billion profit in the second quarter of 2025, according to a financial disclosure on Thursday. The El Salvador-based company also revealed its intention to enter the U.S. market with a specialized product offering aimed at capitalizing on recent regulatory breakthroughs.

CEO Paolo Ardoino hinted at the upcoming expansion via social media, describing the U.S.-targeted business as one focused on delivering a “best-in-class product suite.” The announcement follows the recent approval of the GENIUS Act—a landmark piece of legislation that formally legitimizes the issuance of dollar-pegged stablecoins within the United States.

Tether’s financial performance continues to impress, with the company generating $5.7 billion in profit during the first half of 2025—a 9.6% year-over-year increase. A new attestation released Thursday highlighted its reserve composition, which includes $105 billion in U.S. Treasuries, $8.9 billion in Bitcoin, and $8.7 billion in precious metals. In total, U.S. Treasuries now make up 64% of Tether’s backing, placing it on par with sovereign holders like Saudi Arabia in terms of U.S. debt exposure.

As of Thursday, Tether’s market capitalization stood at roughly $163 billion—more than double that of its closest competitor, Circle. Amid lingering concerns over regulatory compliance, especially regarding digital asset reserves, Tether emphasized that its reserve structure demonstrates how private firms can enhance public financial infrastructure by providing onchain access to U.S. dollar liquidity.

With regulation finally catching up to stablecoin innovation, Tether appears ready to double down on its dominance—this time, with a firm foothold in the U.S.
