Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Treasury to Nearly $2B, Earns FTSE Mid-Cap Upgrade

Metaplanet, Japan’s largest dedicated bitcoin treasury firm, has reinforced its accumulation strategy with a new purchase of 103 BTC worth approximately $11.7 million. The acquisition, made at an average price of $113,491 per coin, lifts the company’s total bitcoin reserves to 18,991 BTC.

President Simon Gerovich confirmed that Metaplanet has now spent about $1.95 billion on bitcoin purchases since launching its accumulation program in April 2024, with an average cost basis of $102,712 per BTC. This aggressive strategy has secured the company a spot among the world’s top ten public firms by bitcoin holdings, ranking seventh globally.

In parallel with its growing reserves, Metaplanet announced that it has been included in the FTSE Japan Index following the September review. The company has been upgraded from small-cap to mid-cap status, a development Gerovich described as “another important milestone on our journey as Japan's leading bitcoin treasury company.”

Market reaction was cautiously positive, with Metaplanet’s stock rising 3.5% in Monday’s trading session. Despite being down nearly 27% over the past month, shares remain up 148% since the start of 2025.

Meanwhile, bitcoin itself traded lower, slipping 1.5% to $113,148 late Sunday night.
