Tether Adds $1B in Bitcoin to Reserve, Nears 110K BTC

Tether has strengthened its bitcoin treasury with another 8,888.88 BTC, valued at roughly $1 billion, according to onchain data. The transfer took place on the last day of Q3 2025, with funds moving from a Bitfinex hot wallet to an address previously identified as part of Tether’s reserve holdings.
The company has yet to officially confirm the transaction, but the acquisition follows its established pattern of accumulating bitcoin at quarter’s end. Earlier this year, Tether executed a nearly identical transfer of 8,888 BTC to the same reserve wallet.
Since launching its bitcoin purchase strategy in September 2022, Tether has consistently built up its reserves. In May 2023, it committed to allocating 15% of quarterly net profits into bitcoin, cementing its long-term diversification plan.
If verified, the latest purchase brings Tether’s total holdings to about 109,410 BTC, currently worth $12.4 billion. This positions the stablecoin issuer as the third-largest known bitcoin holder overall, trailing only Block One’s 164,000 BTC and Strategy’s 640,031 BTC.
Alongside Tether’s direct holdings, its affiliated treasury vehicle, Twenty One, holds an additional 43,514 BTC valued at $4.9 billion — further solidifying Tether’s place as one of the largest corporate backers of bitcoin.
