Tether Expands Bitcoin Holdings With $750M Purchase in Early 2025

As the cryptocurrency market continues to evolve, institutional interest in digital assets has surged. Stablecoin giant Tether is the latest to make a significant move, acquiring $750 million worth of Bitcoin in the first quarter of 2025. This latest investment solidifies Tether’s position among major corporate Bitcoin holders, joining firms like Michael Saylor’s Strategy and Metaplanet in the ongoing institutional embrace of BTC.
According to transaction data recorded on Tuesday, Tether’s recent purchase added 8,888 BTC to its reserves, pushing the company's total Bitcoin holdings to an estimated $7.8 billion. The acquisition aligns with Tether’s ongoing strategy of allocating a portion of its net profits toward BTC purchases, a practice formally announced in May 2023 when it committed to investing 15% of its profits into Bitcoin.
While 2025 is still in its early months, the year is already proving to be pivotal for the crypto industry. Although Bitcoin’s price has experienced fluctuations, the broader landscape is shifting dramatically. One of the key driving factors is U.S. President Donald Trump’s commitment to reshaping national crypto policies. His administration has positioned the United States as a contender for the title of the world's crypto capital, fostering a climate that encourages institutional investment and regulatory clarity.
Tether’s Bitcoin acquisition strategy has been in motion since September 2022, when it first dipped into the market. Since then, its continued accumulation has paid off significantly, with unrealized gains from BTC investments currently standing at approximately $3.86 billion. The company’s recent purchase also cements its place among the largest Bitcoin holders, with its wallet now ranked as the sixth largest by BTC volume.
As institutional investment in Bitcoin grows, Tether’s proactive accumulation strategy underscores a broader trend—major players in the digital finance space are increasingly viewing Bitcoin as a strategic asset. With regulatory shifts on the horizon and corporate adoption on the rise, the trajectory for crypto in 2025 appears stronger than ever.
