Trump-Linked WLFI Token Set to Trade After Overwhelming Community Vote

The crypto token tied to the Trump family, World Liberty Financial (WLFI), is finally hitting the market after a governance vote unlocked its tradability. The proposal, introduced by the WLFI team on July 9, received a landslide 99.94% approval from token holders by Wednesday, clearing the path for trading to begin.

The WLFI team framed the vote as a turning point, stating the move ushers in a new era of "community participation, access, and protocol development." The token—previously non-transferable—was sold in two early rounds priced at $0.015 and $0.05. Until now, holders could only use their WLFI for governance and exclusive perks, including access to Trump-related events.

Opening up trading introduces price discovery to a token deeply tied to the former U.S. President. Donald Trump’s involvement in crypto has grown significantly in recent years, culminating in events like a May gala for TRUMP memecoin holders and ongoing ventures in bitcoin mining and stablecoins.

Trump’s financial ties to WLFI are substantial. A disclosure from last month revealed he personally held 15.75 billion WLFI tokens at the end of 2024, while his affiliated entity, DT Marks DEFI LLC, was allocated another 22.5 billion. That adds up to a significant share of the Trump family's estimated $620 million crypto holdings—roughly 6% of their reported $6.4 billion net worth.

Advisory roles in the World Liberty project include all three of Trump's sons, as well as real estate mogul and U.S. special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and his two sons—also listed as co-founders.

Only tokens purchased by early backers are being unlocked for now. The remainder of the 100 billion total WLFI supply will require a future community vote to determine release timing. Meanwhile, team and advisor tokens will follow a lengthier vesting schedule to underscore long-term alignment with the protocol’s goals.

Despite the token’s bullish path forward, Trump’s crypto expansion has drawn scrutiny. Lawmakers like Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Maxine Waters have publicly questioned whether his growing digital asset holdings pose a conflict of interest, especially given his recent policy influence and presidential ambitions.

The WLFI unlock represents a symbolic and financial milestone for Trump’s crypto empire—one that could redefine his influence in the evolving digital asset space.
