Coinbase Acquires Echo for $375 Million to Expand into Token Fundraising and Real-World Assets

Coinbase has announced the acquisition of Echo, a fast-growing investment platform, in a deal valued at approximately $375 million in cash and stock. The move represents a major step in Coinbase’s strategy to expand its reach beyond trading into the broader world of crypto-based fundraising and tokenized investments.
The acquisition follows a surge in dealmaking across the digital assets industry, spurred by a crypto-friendly U.S. administration that has encouraged domestic expansion. Just last week, rival exchange Kraken secured a $100 million acquisition of the Small Exchange, signaling a renewed competitive race to dominate regulated crypto markets.
Echo, founded by well-known trader Jordan “Cobie” Fish, has become a cornerstone for crypto-native capital formation. Its flagship Sonar platform has facilitated over $200 million in fundraising for blockchain projects since its launch two years ago, allowing investors to participate in both private and public token sales.
Coinbase plans to integrate Echo’s technology to launch token fundraising tools directly on its platform. Initially, the focus will be on crypto token sales, but the company also aims to expand into tokenized securities and real-world asset markets, creating a bridge between traditional finance and blockchain-based capital raising.
“Our goal is to build more accessible, efficient, and transparent capital markets,” Coinbase stated in a blog post announcing the deal.
This marks Coinbase’s second major acquisition of the year, following its $2.9 billion purchase of Deribit in May—an acquisition that strengthened its global derivatives business. With Echo now under its umbrella, Coinbase appears set on constructing a comprehensive financial ecosystem that unites trading, derivatives, and tokenized asset fundraising under one roof.
