Trump Family Expands Crypto Ambitions with Bold Bitcoin Mining Move

The Trump family is making a significant play in the cryptocurrency space, solidifying its stake in the bitcoin (BTC) mining industry. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. are leading a new initiative through their firm, American Data Centers, by merging it with a large-scale mining operation under the name American Bitcoin.

Through this deal, the Trump brothers will secure a 20% stake in the new company, while the remaining 80% will be controlled by Hut 8, a publicly traded crypto infrastructure giant contributing an impressive 61,000 mining rigs to power the venture. Notably, the agreement was structured as a cash-free transaction.

Eric Trump, stepping in as chief strategy officer of American Bitcoin, framed the move as a natural extension of the family’s long-standing preference for hard assets. He likened digital currencies to real estate and detailed ambitions to amass a “bitcoin reserve” while considering a potential public listing for the company. Although separate from the Trump Organization, American Bitcoin could eventually collaborate with World Liberty Financial, a DeFi project spearheaded by the Trump brothers.

Hut 8 will handle mining operations across its 11 U.S. data centers, with CEO Asher Genoot highlighting the low energy costs and scalable infrastructure as key competitive advantages for American Bitcoin.

The company’s board includes notable figures such as Tinder co-founder Justin Mateen and FabFitFun co-founder Michael Broukhim. While bitcoin mining continues to face environmental scrutiny, Eric Trump remains optimistic that the lower energy costs in the U.S. will enable American miners to dominate the industry.

With the Trump family deepening its footprint in digital assets, American Bitcoin is positioning itself as a major player in the evolving crypto landscape.
