MetaMask Embraces Solana: Wallet Extension Now Supports Trading and DApps on New Network

MetaMask has officially added support for the Solana blockchain within its web browser extension, marking a major leap beyond Ethereum-compatible networks. The integration, announced on Tuesday, now allows users to interact with Solana-based tokens, conduct swaps, bridge assets, and tap into decentralized applications built on Solana—all from within the familiar MetaMask interface.

Mobile users won’t have to wait long: MetaMask confirmed that Solana support will roll out to its mobile app in the coming weeks.

This move comes as part of MetaMask’s broader effort to expand beyond Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) networks. The company previously introduced Snaps—modular plugins enabling connectivity to non-EVM chains. With this latest rollout, MetaMask is signaling a future where users can seamlessly access a wider blockchain ecosystem without switching wallets.

“Solana is just the beginning,” the team emphasized. “We’re planning to onboard more non-EVM networks soon to eliminate the need for multiple wallets.”

MetaMask’s plans for Solana integration were first revealed in February, alongside a commitment to support Bitcoin connectivity by Q3 2025. As one of the largest self-custody wallet platforms, MetaMask serves a global base of roughly 100 million users, according to estimates by parent company Consensys.

Meanwhile, speculation continues over the possibility of a native MetaMask token. Discussions around a potential token date back to 2021, and although no official plans have been announced, company leadership has remained open to the idea. Joseph Lubin, Consensys CEO, previously suggested a token could help decentralize the platform. Co-founder Dan Finlay echoed that sentiment this month on the "Crypto Beat" podcast, saying a token is still "a maybe," but more feasible given recent regulatory developments in the U.S.

In a positive turn for the company, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission agreed earlier this year to drop its enforcement case against MetaMask. That decision came shortly after similar actions against Coinbase and Kraken were also dismissed, offering the industry a momentary regulatory breather.

MetaMask’s expansion into Solana could mark a key moment in its evolution—from a primarily Ethereum-based wallet to a true multi-chain gateway.
