Bitcoin Pushes Above $80,000 as Macro Optimism Fuels Sharp Crypto Rebound

Bitcoin surged above $80,000 on Monday, briefly touching $81,000 before pulling back slightly and continuing to trade above the key psychological level.

The latest move extends a powerful recovery that has added more than $16,000 to Bitcoin’s price in a single week. The rally has also pushed the Crypto Fear & Greed Index into “Extreme Greed,” reaching 83 as investor confidence returned to the market.

Much of the renewed optimism has been linked to the U.S. Treasury’s decision last week to expand its bond buyback program. The move has raised expectations that liquidity conditions could become more supportive for risk assets, including cryptocurrencies.

Still, not everyone sees the rally as proof that a new Bitcoin bull market has begun.

Some market participants argue that Bitcoin is simply catching up after trailing other risk assets for much of the year. Strong spot Bitcoin ETF inflows have added fuel to the rebound, but traders remain focused on whether the momentum can persist.

The macroeconomic backdrop remains a major source of uncertainty. Inflation has yet to fully cool, long-term Treasury yields remain elevated, and geopolitical risks continue to create pressure across financial markets.

For Bitcoin to establish a more convincing long-term bullish trend, some investors believe the cryptocurrency needs to remain above major price milestones while monetary policy becomes more supportive. A sustained move toward and above $100,000, combined with clearer signals of Federal Reserve rate cuts, would provide stronger confirmation.

The size of Bitcoin’s latest move, however, has caught attention. The cryptocurrency produced one of its largest weekly gains on record, creating a strong bullish reversal pattern across multiple timeframes.

The rally has also spread beyond Bitcoin. Ether has climbed roughly 32% over the same period, while XRP has gained about 53% and Solana has risen around 34%. The broad-based strength suggests that traders are once again moving into higher-risk parts of the crypto market.

Whether that momentum continues could depend less on Bitcoin’s next price target and more on the economic data arriving this week.

The upcoming U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures, or PCE, inflation report will be closely watched. A softer reading could strengthen expectations for easier monetary policy, potentially pushing Treasury yields lower and supporting risk assets. A hotter-than-expected number could have the opposite effect by keeping yields elevated and limiting liquidity.

The bond market is another warning sign. The 30-year Treasury yield remains near levels not seen since 2007, highlighting the tight financial conditions still facing investors.

That creates a complicated backdrop for Bitcoin. On one hand, stronger ETF inflows, rising altcoins and improving liquidity expectations point toward further gains. On the other, elevated borrowing costs and persistent inflation could prevent the rally from turning into a sustained bull cycle.

For now, Bitcoin’s break above $80,000 marks a major shift in market sentiment. The next test will be whether buyers can maintain that momentum as investors digest the latest inflation data and reassess the outlook for U.S. monetary policy.
