Salesforce Confirms the Integration of Blockchain Technology by the End of 2018

As Blockchain technology continues to make inroads in several business applications, cloud computing giant Salesforce has now confirmed that it is working on a product based on the blockchain technology and would integrate it to its platform by the end of 2018.

During a recent interview at TrailheaDX Salesforce Developer Conference on March 28, with Business Insider’s Julie Bort, the two co-founders of Salesforce - Marc Benioff and Parker Harris - talked about the company’s future plans about working on hot technologies with blockchain being one of them.

Parker Harris during the talk said: “I hope that by [our annual conference] Dreamforce we will have a Blockchain and cryptocurrency solution for Salesforce and for all of our customers.”

Benioff during the interview told a story of him being in Switzerland earlier this year to attend the World Economic Forum and by accidental good luck, he happened to have met a person attending the cryptocurrency conference at the same time. This was the time when he started thinking about the blockchain technology and how it could be used at the merit of Salesforce.

Benioff said: "I had been thinking a lot about what is Salesforce's strategy around blockchain, and what is Salesforce's strategies around cryptocurrencies and how we relate to all of these things.”

Later after the WEF, Benioff thought more about this and believed that the cloud computing software can make use of the Blockchain technology. At this time, his thoughts aligned in a way to put the blockchain and cryptocurrencies to work in Salesforce.

He said: "You know if you do this, this and this, you could put blockchain and cryptocurrencies into Salesforce.”

Not much details about Salesforce’s upcoming blockchain-based product are available at the moment, but Benioff said that he hopes to bring the product before the Dream conference scheduled to take place ahead this year from Sept. 25 to 28, in San Francisco.

While concluding the interview, Benioff said: A lot [these ideas] comes from paying attention, listening. There’s new ideas coming all the time.” He further stated that there are many ideas which can be possibly executed by he would begin with those which are really important to their customers.

Salesforce is known for providing cloud-based solutions for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) across different industries like manufacturing, healthcare, retail, finance and media. Considering the fact that blockchain technology holds a potential application across all these industries, it would certainly be a smart move by Salesforce to venture in this space. Salesforce recently registered $8.4 billion revenue for the last year of 2017.
