UN Builds Anti-Climate Change, Blockchain-Based Coalition

For years, climate change has been an extremely controversial topic, given the fact that there are people who believe it is happening, people who don’t care, and those who think it’s a conspiracy.

Regardless, recent reports indicate that the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat is planning to form a Climate Chain Coalition that will carry out research into how blockchain technology can be used to combat this trend.

So far, a total of 25 organizations involved with blockchain technology, have agreed to help form the coalition. Currently, the UN sign-ups for the program counts a total of 32 members, and sign ups remain open.  According to the blockchain climate change UN project leader, Massamba Thioye, “The UN Climate Change secretariat recognizes the potential of blockchain technology to contribute to enhanced climate action and sustainability.”

The coalition, dubbed as the CCC, will try its best to help advance collaboration on blockchain-based projects capable of having an influence in the climate change fight. Members have all agreed on sharing information, and collaborating in a wide variety of domains, including but not limited to: research, pilot projects, governance, networking, and more.

The main goals of the project are to strengthen the reporting, verification and monitoring processes of climate change, while also improving the efficiency of anti-climate change actions, and refining transparency. Additionally, the coalition also hopes to make incentive mechanisms for climate-related actions available in some of the poorer regions of the world.

The project manager also mentioned that: “To fully and promptly mobilize this potential, broad collaboration among stakeholders is needed to direct resources to priority areas, avoid duplication of effort, and help avoid the pitfalls of working on a new technology with countless unknowns.”

Based on everything that has been outlined so far, we’re excited to see what projects the coalition will come up with, and how blockchain technology will be leveraged in order to fight climate change, and stop global warming.
