Salt (SALT) initiated operations in May 2017, bringing peer-to-peer lending to the cryptocurrency-based asset market, with collateralised loans for BTC made available in Q4 2017. Salt is led by Shawn Owen as CEO with a core team of over 15 members including Eric Voorhees (founder and CEO of ShapeShift).
Salt (SALT) has brought peer-to-peer lending platform uses blockchain assets to back loans (currently Bitcoin and Ethereum). This enables cryptocurrency holders to retain ownership of coin assets and obtain cash for ready use. Salt was so popular that it had to stop taking membership applications which allows access to the Salt lending platform.
Salt’s membership-based system is effectively run as an ERC-20 smart contract, allowing financial inclusion initiatives to set up a block chain backed line of credit for anyone who is currently unbanked or is unable to get credit for good reason. Salt effectively allows holders who need cash to leverage their holdings rather than selling out right.
