Verge (XVG) is a cryptocurrency which operates on a decentralized and open-source basis and aims at providing user privacy. Verge offers increased privacy options by hiding the geolocation and IP address of its users. The Verge project utilizes both Tor and I2P networks to obfuscate its users’ details, meaning IP addresses can be hidden, while the transaction ledger remains public and transparent for users who wish to make their transactions public.

Verge originated as DogeCoinDark in 2014 before rebranding to Verge in 2016. The project is completely open source and community-operated, with a worldwide team of contributors. The project’s lead developer is currently the pseudonymous Sunerok. No ICO was held upon launch, nor did any pre-mining take place.

The Verge network allows for public and private ledgers to take place on the same blockchain, with users free to choose which service they prefer.
