GAS tokens are one of the two currencies native to the NEO network. While the NEO coin is the main cryptocurrency of the network and is used to represent its market shares and voting rights, GAS is generated as by-product of NEO and is used to pay for transactions and applications. GAS is produced by having NEO stored locally, and is generated at a rate of 0.000000008 GAS per NEO held for every block that is processed. Both GAS and NEO have a coin production limit of 100 million. While NEO coins currently far outnumber GAS, the constant production of GAS via network transactions could see GAS numbers match NEO numbers by 2036.

NEO was founded in 2014, beginning life under the name Antshares. NEO is China’s first open-source blockchain, and was created by Da Hongfei and Eric Zhang.
GAS can be bought and traded independently of NEO on Binance, or can be earned through engagement on the NEO network. GAS’s divisibility could see it eventually outperform its parent coin, NEO.
