About

Qtum (QTUM) is a hybrid platform which seeks to combine the reliability of Bitcoin with the smart contract capabilities of Ethereum. Qtum was created from a Bitcoin fork and paired with a compatible version of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). This allows for the development of smart contracts and decentralized applications on the reliable Bitcoin blockchain.

Qtum, or the Quantum project, was launched in April 2017 by a Singapore based company, headed by developer Patrick Dai. Qtum is developed to fill the niche for users who want the security of Bitcoin with the usability of Ethereum. Qtum is fully compatible with active Ethereum contracts and Bitcoin gateways.

Qtum can be used on mobile phones and is fully mobile-ready. It uses Bitcoin’s Simple Payment Verification method of transaction conformation, allowing for rapid verifications without the need for major computing resources. In the long run, Qtum aims to take over from Ethereum and NEO as the first stop for hosting applications and launching ICO’s.
